USing the latest Safari, Leopard and whatever interface Gmail puts up, I
observe timely performance, no observable bugs and no errors.

Maybe you could give a little more detail about your experience.

I experience slow response in sending email or opening email, when I
use forward cannot insert any contact, at times I click on something
and doesn't work and have to reaload Gmail, I never had such
experiences with Tiger and previous Safari. If you read posts in
internet it seems there are problems, I am surpirsed you don't
experienceany.

I don't experience any of those symptoms. I would suggest that you
visit the Apple Support website and download and install the latest 10.5
Combo updater applicable to your machine.

Same for me. I use both Firefox and Safari on Leopard and gmail works
fine in both browsers.
