Probably the most Netscape-like tool out there will be Thunderbird. That is not my first choice of newsreader, but it might make sense for someone moving from Netscape.

NS7 or earlier? The most Netscape-like tool would be SeaMonkey as
it is the continuation of the suite format. It uses the same Gecko
core as FF/TB but has a more advanced configuration user interface.
The good news it that some attention has been paid to the newsreader
portions of the Mozilla mailnews implementation. Some sorely missing
features like filtering on any header and thread pruning should appear
in SeaMonkey & Thunderbird next year. (Can't wait to write the Zara
pruning rule for comp.sys.mac.system...)
