I have started using MT NewsWatcher, and I acually like it this time (I
gave it a short try sie time ago :-))
One thing I can not figure out though, is how I tell MTN NOT to remove
read articles? It can not be a filter because there is not a filter
supposed to do that.
There is a option to do it manually (News --> Remove Read), so I don't
undestand why it is done automatically?
MT-NW doesn't remove read messages until you close the newsgroup window.
The "Remove Read" command allows you to remove messages from the window
without having to close & reopen the newsgroup.
If you want to see all the messages every time you open the newsgroup,
there are a few ways to do it, but none of them is truly automatic:
Option 1: Uncheck the Saving Files -> Auto Save on Quit option. When
you quit, MT-NW will ask whether you want to save your group list; tell
it to quite WITHOUT saving the group list. In effect, all messages will
be automatically marked as "unread" when you quit MT-NW.
Option 2: Before you close a group window, do a Select All and Mark As
Unread (command-option-U). Next time you open the group, those messages
will still be there.
Option 3: After closing or before opening a newsgroup, select it and
use the Mark As Unread command on it. All the messages in it will be
unread, so when you open that newsgroup, you'll see all of them.
Option 4: Hold down the Option key when opening a newsgroup. You'll
get a dialog to control how many messages it'll fetch. For example, if
you specify "messages posted less than 6 months ago", all messages less
than 6 months old will be marked as unread.
I suspect he wants to see them with the check-mark next to the ones he's
read already, so that he doesn't have to read all the old messages to
find the new ones.
