I'm mulling over the idea of getting a digital camera with a flash

It saves video movies in AVI format.

Might someone recommend an application for converting those AVI files
into quicktime?

Thanks.

Are you sure you need to convert? My camera makes AVI movies which play
just fine without conversion (in Quicktime Player). If I need to save
them out in another format Quicktime can do that.

It looks like your camera uses mpeg 4 format in compression and use AVI as container instead of Quicktime.

Still, if I had such a camera, I would still convert them to Mov via 3ivx "Dr. Divx" application. AVI is a real problematic format especially on Mac.

My suggestion to the poster is to buy Sanyo Flash camera which even some models have HD video.

Believe or not, the camera stores the videos in plain MOV files inside flash and you can even watch them inside Finder :)

For example, you just drag drop .mov files from Camera's Finder window (shows as disk) to iMovie.
