Re: Looking for good syncing/incremental backup app

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of going back from Windows to the Mac after many
years, and I will bring lots of data with me. :) This means I need a
good backup concept from the start. I also am interested in a quick
recovery solution in case of harddisk failure.

Here is what I do on the PC - I am now looking for a similar solution
on the Mac.

#1:

I have the OS and all my apps on one partition (= volume). Every month
or so, I do a backup of this using a tool called TrueImage to an
external HD. In a case of a harddisk failure/replacement, I can boot
with TrueImage's recovery CD and restore the image.

All data sits on another partition. I do a daily 1:1 incremental
backup of this using Total Commander - one of the few products I was
totally happy with on Windows. It has a very neat and efficient
syncing command that allows you to sync selected folders and
subfolders.

You basically tell it: "Move everything new from the folder in the
left panel to the folder in the right panel; delete everything on the
right that does not exist on the left side", nod off the analysis (or
maybe check off a few files were you changed your mind), and that's
it: An incremental file-level backup solution, giving you a 1:1 copy
of all your data on an external USB HD.

How could I do the same on the Mac?

In other words: Can someone - preferably from his own experience -
recommend a combo of a disk imaging tool and something for daily
incremental backups?

So far, I have found Folders SynchronizerX by softoBe. Are there
better alternatives?

Thank you.
