That is really silly. But, on the bright side, am I seeing an
improvement here spinoza? You made no argument by authority,
quoted no one to back this up, did not mention anyone that you
had hobnobbed with that had this very opinion. Not bad as far as
it goes. Now how about an argument to at least give it some
backbone? Never read a poem or a book or looked at a painting
more than once? Are you really so ignorant as to suppose that
watching a film once will give you all the marvellous things in
it?
Yes. What I was trying to express, hyperbolically, was that the set of
watchable films has very small cardinality and x/y where x is that
cardinality, and y is the total number of films made, is very small,
and smaller than other arts.
This is because film is a social art and usually arrives at lowest
common denominator.
Significant numbers of films use Fascism to excite the dull
sensitivies of the audience: cf. the Godfather, and see "Fascinating
Fascism" by Susan Sontag.
[Yup. Your not having read anything or been anywhere makes you less
qualified to speak. You're nothing more than the headmaster in
Portrait of the Artist. Clue: sitting in an institution of higher
education, even post-baccalaureate, and regurgitating things, doesn't
count.]
