Why not just make life easy for yourself and leave the drive mounted?
That's what I do; works fine. Alternatively, drag a file or folder from
that disk onto your Mac's Desktop or the Dock. When you click on that
folder, it will mount the disk and open up the folder. This will work,
even if your disk is connected to another computer and shared over a
network.
