That's interesting.
You know what else I would advise you do? Make note (on a scrap piece
of paper, or whatever) of the exact times and dates each time this
happens. Then examine your system and console logs and look for error
message entries around those times/dates.
If you see any error messages you don't understand, feel free to post
them here. Or, if you want, you can send your entire system log to me
and I'll take a look - just make sure the log you send has dates where
the problem actually happened (the system log and others are rotated
(started fresh) often).

Boy this is bringing back my youth..back when I was a self taught Sun
administrator before Solaris, back when these goshdarn newfangled
window stuff was just getting started. Spotlight wouldn't pick up the
files but I found system.log in the /var/log back where they used to
be when I was a young'n. I checked to see if this still had the rot13
command, but it doesn't. I'll have to rot13 it by hand.
