Your issues sound like my issues.

I recently updated to OS X 10.4.10 and things started not working.

- Couldn't print from any application
- None of Adobe Creative Suite 2 would load
- Downloads always resulted in "Mounting Failed"
- Updates always resulted in a "failed" status because I "...did not
have Administrator privileges..."
- Could no longer access iDisk; "volume could not be read..." or some
such message

These were the major bugs that were hellish.

I finally re-installed the OS X 10.4 using the installations disks
that came with my PowerBook G4; then, I upgraded to only 10.4.9. I
turned off all automatic updates.

All the above issues have been resolved.

I hope this info helps other people, too.

I'm not saying that if you're experiencing these issues that you
should reinstall, but if any of this opens up the doors to other
possible solutions, then so be it.

Good luck.

Juliet,

I'm totally boggled in that I am currently running under OS X 10.4.10, having
recently upgraded from OS X 10.4.9, and I am not experiencing any of the
problems you describe. Whether or not that I am running on an Intel Mac and
not a Power PC Mac has any bearing is a question.

Jim

And, as another counterpoint, I have recently updated all four of my
Macs (MacBook, G4 PowerBook, dual G5 PowerMac, and G4 iMac) to 10.4.10
without encountering any of the stated problems -- the MacBook and the
G5 are running CS3 (no problems) and the PowerBook and iMac are running
CS2 (also, no problems). Printing works fine in every app I use to
print, including (but not limited to) the Adobe apps, Word, Excel,
Preview, Discus, iPhoto, iTunes, and BBEdit. Downloads work in Safari,
Firefox, RBrowser, Thoth, and Unison (probably others, as well).
Updates to Adobe apps, iTunes, etc have all been successful. Also, my
iDisk can be reached.

I don't doubt that you experienced problems -- but I can't believe that
our experiences were that different unless something was already messed
up on your Mac that tipped things over the edge.
