Frank, then you got better mileage than I did. I couldn't create a new
puzzle. When I tried to select an grid size, I got a window-related error
message from CC. I also couldn't figure out how to install all the extra
pop-up dictionaries in such a way that CC could call them. I also got
gobbledygook when I tried to display a list of a puzzle's clues. It went
badly enough that I'm typing this while Windows XP installs under Parallels
3.0.

Sorry to hear that Steve, but glad it was just the demo. Recall, I did
not use CrossOver - I used the F/OSS WINE.

I don't want to rave on, and the interest here doesn't seem very great,
but when I bought this MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo in October to set up for my
younger son in anticipation of his getting hired for a high tech job for
which he had just interviewed, I IMMEDIATELY felt at home.

First, I quickly came to appreciate the GUI, including the Dock which I
didn't think was a good idea prior to actually using it, but second - OS
X's heart of Unix and the ability to run many thousands of F/OSS
applications, and to install them with a single request through Darwin
Ports or Fink, and the security blanket of the CLI. What a rich,
efficient, and productive environment.

Then, I was a beta tester for Parallels Desktop, ultimately 3.0a, and man
did I wring that baby out. I had Solaris 10 running, Ubuntu dapper with
all its different desktop options, Ubuntu feisty, Ubuntu Studio - which
absolutely kicks ass, and Ubuntu Server gutsy beta. Oh, yeah. Almost
forgot - XP Pro SP2 with Office 2003 Pro and a few other goodies from the
evil empire.

My MacBook is so astounding that I've had to revive a few folks who
fainted dead-away when they couldn't handle what they saw!

Anyway, my point is, overlooking X11 applications, and F/OSS applications
compiled for OS X is to miss half of what I have. I'll name names if
anyone cares, but you'd guess Firefox, Thunderbird, NeoOffice, Kompozer,
Audacity, The Gimp, Inkscape, Scribus, etc.

It's an all-star cast, and in the case of CC, all I had to do was download
the latest Windows version from the Web site, and type this into a
terminal:

sudo port install wine

a few minutes later, WINE was flowing like wine, and when I then typed:

wine ccdemo.exe

it fired right up, allowing me to choose the crossword type and design,
and to enter the words, etc.
