Opening ports for iChat

I'm trying to set up my Belkin54G wireless router for use with iChat.
The Apple help document lists the ports that need to opened. However,
the router offers ports that are shown in the router configuration as
LAN and Public Ports. Can anyone advise me which I should open. It
also offers an easy and straightforward choice between TCP and UDP, but
this LAN/Public Port has confused me. Thanks for any replies.
