Thanks for all those that gave suggestions.
Sorry I missed out on a few details that some pointed out.
The Canon software that I and trying to install came with a disc that
indicated it is suitable for OS 9. When I look on the disc it does have a
file named Mac OS X but I cant find anything to setup. The auto set up for
the disc does not start neither does it work when I click on the setup file
manually. As someone had mentioned I think this does not work for OS X. I
have down loaded the driver from the web site which does indicated drivers
available for OS X but still it didn't work.
I shall try and just plug in the card reader. I shall keep you posted. Buy
the way the model number was SDDR-88 from Sandisc.
Lansafe is the software for Powerware UPS (Eaton). The USB cable is plug in
but the Mac does not recognise it. The manufactures does state that it is
Mac compatible although it is predominantly for Windows. The support for MAc
I think is poor.
OE yes sorry I am trying to move emails from OE to Mac mail. OE stores the
files as *.dbx. I have tried to convert to *.mbx. I have been using dbxconv
but when I try and import using Mac mail and using other as type on set up
install the file is greyed out so I cant pick it to import.
we well I will just keep trying. thanks. for your advise

I am a recent newbie to the ways of the Mac and I am having difficulty in
loading applications to my system.
At first I thought it might just be an out of date (none compatible
application or something), but I am having difficulty in four different
programmes.
I have contacted the manufactures of each of the devices that I am trying
to load and I am currently awaiting a response.
It seems to me that I must be doing something wrong for this amount of
software to not load. I have tried loading from the install discs. I have
downloaded the up-to-date software (in case this area could be a problem),
but no I still get the same response.
Does any one know (what may seem common to Mac users) but big thing for me
of what I need to do to learn the ways of the Mac?
I am trying to load the following things: -
Canon scanner 5000F with installation disc.
Sandisk card reader with driver from website.
Lansafe software for a Powerware 3105 UPS from installation disc.
and outlook express inbox mail. I have used dbxconv but still no results.
I have a iMac 20" one week old. with Mac OS X.4.9 (all updates).
thanks...
.
