Interesting discussion. I reckon your suggestions about writing
something (PERL or AppleScript) is just you folks talking to each other
because it's beyond me.
Maybe someone could weigh in with a suggestion about an app from the
past, OS9 and before. I still do quite a lot (50%) with Classic apps,
so installing/running something old would work for me if I could get it
someplace.
Thanks again, everyone. 'Preciate it.

About a decade ago I traded emails with someone in a newsgroup who had.
a trick anti-spam procedure. When I sent him an email, it came back as
a Reply in seconds along with some added text about sending an email
with a specific Subject, which was shown.
I resent the email with the specified Subject and then we were able to
exchange mail, except that every time I sent one to him I had to deal
with a Reply and a new Subject (in, as I remember, a certain interval
of time). My guess was his first reply was auto-generated and all
email that did not originate with the specified Subject (i.e., spam)
was trashed so he didn't have to bother with it.
I didn't ask him about the application that did this because spam
wasn't such a big problem for me then. But now I'd like to ask if
anyone knows what the app is that does this, hoping it's a Mac app.
BTW, the recent arrest of the so-called "Biggest Spammer In The World"
did not affect the number of spams I get. Too bad.
