I've no doubt that some very good suggestions for "WYSIWYG" HTML/CSS
editors will come along.
I do think that you might like to try the hand coding approach as it is
surprising how simple it is particularly if you use a good text editor
designed with creating HTML/CSS in mind.
I am going to suggest the free Textwrangler from Bare Bones software:
