One of my Windows books suggested that "Setup" _might_ be accessed by
one of the following ways, depending on what kind of PC hardware you
owned.
Restart Windows, then try pressing one of these keys:
1) Delete
2) Esc
3) F1
4) F2
5) F1 then F2
6) F3 then F2
7) F10
8) ctrl + alt + S
None of those worked with BootCamp/Parallels, so I resorted to the
destructive hit-or-miss trying of a lot of the 65 files that had "Setup"
in their name.
Just as I figured, all I succeeded in doing was to thoroughly corrupt
Windows by trying to run those Setup files.
When these books are referring to "Setup," they mean the computer's BIOS
(Basic Input Output System). Macs do not use the BIOS for POST (Power
On Self Test) startup, they use EFI. Read more at
http://www.apple.com/bootcamp There is a little ditty on the right side
of the page explaining about EFI. The "Setup" files that you ran on
your Windows partition were installers for various programs. These
installers should not be confused with the BIOS. They are two
completely separate things.
On a PC's BIOS, you would be able to tell the computer to boot from a
CD. The most common way to enter the BIOS is to press one of the key
combos that you described above. They key combo that you need to press
depends on the manufacturer of your PC and/or the manufacturer of your
motherboard. The computer will tell you what to press on the screen to
enter "Setup" while booting up. On a PC, once you enter the BIOS or
"Setup" you can select an option to make the computer boot from a CD.
On a Mac, to boot from a Windows or Linux bootable CD, hold down the
Option key after your hear the startup chime. Insert the bootable CD.
If the CD is in fact bootable, it will appear on the screen and you can
select it and boot from it. If it doesn't appear, either the CD is not
bootable, or you need to update your Mac's firmware.
Welcome to the world of PCs and Windows. Hope this helps.
