When Yahoo reconfigured their home page (after the football season),
their streaming video (NHL games), which had worked with
Firefox/QT/Flip4Mac, stopped working. The help files said that it

clearing my cache in IE5.2. I subsequently realized that I *did* have IE
on my iBook, as I'd migrated everything from my iMac. When I went to my
my.yahoo.com page using IE to attempt to follow their instructions, I
received an "unsupported browser" error message, with a suggestion that
I use Firefox or Safari! I still haven't gotten streaming video working
again, but haven't tried all that hard.
Sounds typical of Yahoo.
I don't get why people still use Yahoo. For that matter, I don't get how
Yahoo manages to remain in business. Yahoo has been around in some form
or other since 1994; one would think that in thirteen years, they'd have
sorted out how to keep a mail server running reliably, how to keep a
chat server running reliably, how to write standards-compliant HTML, and
how to test their sites on different browsers.
Apparently, one would be wrong.
With the kind of appalling incompetence Yahoo displays on a daily basis,
it's no wonder those upstarts over at Google were able to come along and
clean Yahoo's metaphorical clock.
