I have to choose a tool.
Yahoo has its own tool called SiteBuilder. I've never used it, so
I don't know how good it is. (any opinions?) It's Windows only, and
I'm no longer using Windows, so the only way I could use it would
be to run parallels or WINE or some other emulation system.
I've never used Parallels. How convenient would it be to run something
like SiteBuilder inside Parallels?
I don't know if SiteBuilder would run under WINE, but I'm not eager to
spend my time trying. I used to use WINE under Linux and it sucked just
as much as everything else did under Linux. If someone knows whether it
works and how well, let me know.
The other option is to use a third party app, like Dreamweaver. It's
available for Mac, for around $350. I've never used Dreamweaver or
similar web development tools. Is Dreamweaver really worth $350?
What are the alternatives?
Any advice appreciated.
You have received several good suggestions. PageSpinner is another web
development program worth considering. Its inexpensive shareware.
Since you are new to the Mac, you should know about two very good
sources of software for Mac OS X. The first is
http://www.versiontracker.com and the other is the downloads section of
Apple's own web site at http://www.apple.com/macosx/ so whenever you're
interested in finding new Mac software, those two sites should be high
up on your list of sites to check.
In addition, if you run into any problems with your Mac, two excellent
third party web sites for Mac support are http://www.macfixit.com and
http://www.macupdate.com plus Apple has a great collection of online
discussion groups on its support web site which you can get to via
http://www.apple.com
.
