Which would put out in the cold customers who bought G3 iBooks in the
last couple of years.

Apple shipped their last G3 computers in Oct 2003 - when they
replaced the iBook G3 with the iBook G4.

It will have been some 3-1/2 years between discontinuing the
G3 and shipping a new OS which doesn't support it - if the
rumours are true.

Just how long do you think they need to support it? Hell,
if you can afford to buy Leopard, you can probably afford
a 3 year old used iBook G4 which will run it.

But some of us with G3 iBooks decided to stay at Panther anyway. OK, my
initial problem there was the size of the internal disk (solved by
getting an external firewire one), but I've still to live with the
constraint of a maximum of 640 MB RAM.

Ya, more and more software just requires so much space and
power - even if Leopard runs fine on a G3 (and I wouldn't
be too surprised if XPostFacto lets folks put it on there),
I don't know how much of the most up-to-date software folks
would really want to try to shoehorn onto it.
