Yeah; that was the problem with my Mac Powerbook. Since it was a new
machine, I just thought it was the little built-in speakers. But after a while
I started noticing that other apps seemed to produce better sound, so I
asked about it in some forum. I eventually got the same clue as you got,
turned the misnamed "enhancer" off, and the sound got 100% better,
even from the little built-in speakers.
You'd think they wouldn't configure a new machine this way. It's not
a very good demo of the Mac's audio abilities.
