I asked this question over on comp.sys.mac.system last week but no
responses, so I'm going to try here.
Normally, when I open OS 10.4.7 Mail (v.2.1(752/752.2)), after a few
seconds the little wheel in the Inbox signals Mail is searching for new
messages.
I shut down my Quicksilver G4 in the evening and open up in the
morning. But recently, the retrieval changed. Now, the first retrieval
comes up with messages sent me prior to midnight. But when I hit the
Get Mail button, here come more messages: usually today's, sometimes
from yesterday evening. And if I hit the Get Mail button again, I
sometimes get additional messages.
Shouldn't these all come from the server the first time I open Mail in
the morning?
I have the latest version of Spamfire which does a very good job of
keeping Spam from my OSX Mail. Good messages appear in both Mail and
Spamfire.
What to do? I've read in the newsgroups talk of rebuilding, but can
find nothing about it in Mail Help
It may not be Mail at all. Look in the mss headers to see when they were
sent and if there was a delay between then and when they arrived at your
ISP. My ISP has had some problems with"postini" (whatever that is), and
sometimes mss get delayed for twelve hours or more.
