Couple years ago, I gave my trusty old 7200/75 mac to a friend who
finally gave up on Windows, in frustration. I told me that it on old
machine and that he could get a decent newer machine for not very much.
But he wanted to try it and it turned out that he was happy messing
around with the old clunker, using System 9.2.
Recently he finally acquired a newer Mac, a G3 with OS X. There are
some documents that he would like to transfer from the old machine to
his new one. unfortunately he doesn't know how to do this. Until last
year I was his computer support but now he has moved away to an island
community where there is no computer repair/dealer.
Is there anything online that I can send him on how to move data between
macs, something that a beginner could use, that's in plain English. If
he needs a cable I can buy it for him. Can anyone give me advice on my
problem?
As everybody else said, this will work (I do this with a G4 and 2 x
7300s). HOWEVER ... thanks to crApple, recent 10.4 updates have made it
impossible to mount your 7200 volume on the OSX desktop - so you must
make the connection at the other end. Mount the OSX volume on the OS9
desktop. Then you'll be fine.
NB. Be sure and get the right cable. This is a "twisted pair", for
connecting 2 machines, not a network ethernet cable.
Of course - dependent upon file size - you could always email them to
yourself.
