HELP: iMovie problem with audio

Perhaps someone has a simple solution for this as it is making me
crazy.

I connect the digital camcorder (a canon) through the correct cable
(firewire) into my mac (mini). iMovie sees the camcorder and allows one
to rewind and import no problem. The video transfers fine. I hear the
audio as well as see the video during the import. There are about 20
clips (25 min. of actual video). When done importing the video, iMovie
converts the clips so they can be played with.

I can click on the clips, hit the PLAY button and see the video and
hear the audio no problem. Works on all the clips.

As soon as I hit "save", the only clip with audio is clip 1. All the
others lose the audio. The video is still there but no audio. Obviously
dumping this to iDVD does no good without the audio (tried anyway and
made a DVD of video without audio except for clip 1).

Any advice???

running 10.3 and have plenty of hard drive space if that matters.
