As a systems admin I suggest avoiding Eudora. Many swear by it; I swear

And why is that? Is Eudora so insecure as the Outlook for Windows?

Eudora and Outlook (not Express!) are intended to be used in corparate clients with stuff like ACAP etc, to fetch automatic configuration etc. As you probably know, those stuff never supported by ISPs. Most in part because Outlook Express doesn't support.

The problem with both (outlook and eudora) is they aren't so much "home user" friendly. Outlook rejects HTML mail or rejected a while ago for example. Microsoft openly said people to stay away from HTML mail but it is another story.

For example my ISP admin would hate Eudora too. Why? Look what his (ISPs) SMTP server advertises as login protocols:

ehlo (you say "enhanced hello" to smtp server)
250-xxx.xxx.xxx ( I really don't want that mismanaged server name on usenet)

so, it is enhanced HELO protocol, we handshake, look what it says as stuff it supports:
250 AUTH LOGIN PLAIN CRAM-MD5

A professionally coded e-mail client designed to be used in corporate environments will pick CRAM-MD5 automatically since it is the most secure. What will happen? It will FAIL. That moronic server does support PLAIN (clear text travelling passwords) only.

Customer will blame Eudora and Quallcomm and he/she will call ISP as he can't send a very critical mail. What will ISP do? Blame the client and tell him to use a "standard" program.

That is "swearing" for you. :) Don't miss who is really guilty. Non configured by Admin SMTP advertising features it doesn't support.
