Maybe noone's asked. BBEdit's a _very_ old program; at one time that
dialog was as large as it really could be. If noone's complained to
them, they might not know that there's a demand that justifies spending
the time.

If no one has asked, it suggests to me there would be little
demand. But you might be right, earthlings are very sheep-like.

One of the things I've noticed is that people seem to expect developers
to spend a significant amount of time and resources scanning every forum
in existence for feedback, bug reports and feature requests for their
app.

At least I'm guessing that's the expectation, considering how often I
see things posted on Usenet, VersionTracker, AppleInsider's forums .....
while actual attempts to contact the developer are for some reason quite
rare.

It is extremely rare for the power to go off in the whole suburb
of the city I live in. But it did a few weeks back at 9 pm. I
woke up at 4 am and had the niggling thought that maybe no one
has told "them"! So I struggled out of bed in the cold and rang.
Of course they knew!

My power company actually likes as many people as possible to call in.
It helps them judge the extent of the outage and prioritize their repair
efforts.
