User-settable number of columns would also be nice.

OK, we'll at least suggest it, and then we'll have to wait for the
powers that be in Cupertino, I guess. :-)

As would a "tooltip" capability, in which pausing the pointer over a
name produced, after a short delay, an expanded box with the name in it.

As others have said, we already have that.
