If GOOGLE provides a FREE service for groups in USENET, then these

As an OTHER USER, I don't need to acquire the "rules" and jargon that
applies to USERNET.
Like 99.9999 % of ordinary Mac users, I have never directly joined a
USENET GROUP nor do I intend to !
If you have a problem with this, LEAVE GOOGLE and regain your 'NET
ADDICT" status.
Otherwise accept that there are other Mac users out there with at times
rather trivual - to you that is- problems.
Actually Ernie,
Google does a lot of disservice by providing Usenet access with the
same interface that is used to create and manage their internal
private groups that neber leave Google's servers.
This has caused a wide array of confusion with the google user base as
to just what it is that they are working with.
When interacting with Usenet via the Google interface - and that is
all it is after ann, just another interface - you have an obligation
to follow Usenet's expectations. I mean, when accessing Hotmail you
don't expect all MSN users to conform to your personal way of
thinking, right?
Googl eneeds to separate the interface that accesses Usenet from the
interface that controls its own Yahoo-like groups. And that is really
what it is you know - Google's answer to Yahoo groups.
They just cut corners and rather than developing a decent interface
they cheated and adapted their web interface for Usenet to do the
dirty work.
And based on my interaction woth some Google employees, they
arrogantly believe they have a right to do what they want. I suspect
they are attempting to use their financial wherewithall to usurp
Usenet. They already hold the archive of old Usenet postings that was
formerly at Dejanews.
And they impose a 30 day limit. In other words, if you don't post a
new message to a message in a thread within 30 days of the last
message in that thread, it is not allowed. One has to start a whole
new thread. I cannot think of anything more anti-usenet than that.
They're being called on it - and are ignoring the complaints.
They are counting on peopl elike you to champion their position.
Don't get sucked in.
