O.S. VX.46 broke down after only one hour!

I just installed O.S. X.46 today and it's already not working. (The
Tiger is already so sick it can't even stand up!)
I installed O.S. X.46 onto an external La Cie drive today -- a drive
that didn't have a system folder on it.
I was able to use the new system for about an hour and restarted a
couple of times from the external drive adn the computer, but now when I
restart, only the Apple logo appears on the desktop.
I restarted subsequently from my Diskwarrior c.d. and it repaired half a
dozen files with incorrect values, but still only the Apple logo shows
on the monitor when I try to testart from my external La Cie drive that
I just installed O.S. vX.46 onto.
I aso restarted twice with the Shift key down to deactivate the
extensions when restarting, but that didn't work, too.
There are about 189 gigabytes of free space on the external drive.
O.S. 9.22 is my computer's system, and that's the one I'm now using.
