Retrospect Duplicate as Boot ?s

This is a question regarding using Retrospect to create a duplicate
(clone) for emergency use.
I duplicate two Macs to an external FW drive attached to the main Mac
with Retrospect. The other Mac, connected via ethernet LAN, has Retro
Client.
I set both partitions to not "ignore ownership" and duplicate both Macs
on a regular basis.
Today I was testing for disaster on the client Mac. I disconnected the
FW drive from the main (guess there is a better terminology but....) Mac
and attached it to the client Mac.
When the partitions mounted, I checked Get Info and the partition with
the client Mac's duplicate was set incorrectly to "ignore ownership". I
changed the setting on that partition to not ignore ownership.
I then did a Restart and held down Option. The duplicate did not show up
as a bootable option. I then continued with a normal startup and did a
Get Info again. Same incorrect setting so I again reset to Not ignore
ownership. Did another Option restart and it still did not show as
bootable disk.
I then used System Preferences/ Startup Disk and there it did show the
duplicate as an option, I selected it and it booted without problems.
So, with this type of problem in selecting this duplicate partition,
if/when disaster strikes am I going to be able to use this duplicate of
the Client Mac to run that Mac?
Hope question is clear.
Appreciate any advice.
Thank you.
