Can I tranfer my modem from Imac to G4?

Is there any reason I can't take the 56K V.90 internal modem out of my old
Imac and insert it into my G4? I bought the G4 from a college campus lab
where it was connected to the internet via ethernet cable and thus didn't
have an internal modem. Has anybody ever done this and written up a
procedure?
