Powerbooks and Sony cameras

I own a PowerBook 15" 1.67 MHz, brand new, with 1.5 GigaBytes RAM and
Mac OS X 10.4.3, and iMovie HD version 5.02 (111).I also own a Sony
camera marked as DCR-HC17E PAL, that I bought before the Mac.The problem is that when I connect it to the PB (using a 4/6 pin
Firewire cable attached to the Firewire 400 port), iMovie stops loading
the film after an instant, showing a message box saying that it's receiving
images half the required size, and it cannot manage them. Also, it says
that SP or LP modes should be used on the camera, and since SP is
already set, I ignored this part.Notice that I have connected (the same way) the
camera to a 17" brand new iMac G5 (still unsold) and to an eMac G4 1.42 MHz, and all worked as
expected. So the problem is related to a) the cable b) the Firewire 400
port c) the powerbook, and presumably not to Mac OS X.
I'm waiting to try with another PB (the vendor is waiting for its
arrival), but in the meantime I want to ask you if there is some
software/driver/other that can fit my needs, and if you know what kind
of problem is the "half size" one.
thanks in advance
Giovanni Maschio
