that is how iphoto handles raw images.  you need a different
application if you want to manipulate the raw directly.


Thanks for responding, but I probably didn't make myself clear - I don't
want iPhoto to do anything with the raw - I just want it to open in my
chosen image editor when I double click the raw in iPhoto.



iPhoto has a preference setting that controls the action to take when an
image is double clicked. Yu can set that to Photoshop or whatever
application you want to use. But it applies to all images. I don't know of a
way to specify actions just for one file format.

Sure, but that's not the problem - the problem is that when I double click (or drag-n-drop an image that has been edited) the external appication gets sent (by iPhoto) a converted jpeg, not the raw file I want to edit.
