OS 10.3.9 and all was well until something happened while I was using
Toast Titanium.

My desktop picture and all the screen images of open windows looked 'over-exposed'.

Any my system fonts became really small. I mean *reeeaaalllly* small.

I tried rebuilding the desktop from Classic.

Meaningless.

Well... I was getting kind of desperate :-)

I tried rebooting from the install disk to get to Disk Utility (but it
just wouldn't work).

Well, then you've got some other problem you're not telling us about. This would not have helped, but you should certainly be able to do boot from the installer disk and run Disk Utility from there.

Perhaps there's a problem 'cause I CarbonCloned this system hard drive from my previous one? Maybe that's why the CD's not working? Ish.

I tried downloading TinkerTool and using that.
Nothing.

Make a new user and log in as that new user, and see if that user has the same problem. If not, migrate into that new user. If so, reinstall the system. I think if you take the latter course you might like to consider doing a complete archive and reformatting of the hard disk; something very odd is going on if you can't run Disk Utility. m.

Luckily, when I put this 80G hard drive, I partitioned it to contain the OS and then a big 'crap' partition. The vast majority of my programs and archived stuff is sitting on my 'big dump' 80G hard drive. So doing a new install won't be such a hassle. THANK DOG.

But still... something a bit less drastic (and nerve wracking) would be helpful :-)

I'll see about getting my hands on a copy of TechTool Pro and see what happens there.

I suppose it's not just something easy like a corrupt... something or other... that can easily be replaced?

I ran through the hoops with TechTool Pro - everything apparently checked out as OK but when I tried to create an eDrive on my 2nd hard drive, the program 'encountered an error'. Uh. Wonder what that's all about.

Guess the next thing to do is back everything up from the system partition and the 2nd partition, count myself lucky that it only amounts to about 10G and perhaps start all over again.

Yikes!

Since I'm not going to do that today, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)
