Mac Mail Synch Desktop to Laptop

I would like to synch my desktop Mail pop mail messages to my laptop.
I understand from the boards there are some workarounds such as use an
imap account, or leave the message on server, or even as suggested on
one board - ditch the desktop. For various reasons and limitations,
these workarounds do not work for me. I use Synchronize Plus to
synchronize my docs and I've tried using the program to synch my
mailboxes. The messages are copied, however, when I open Mail, it
doesnt recognize the new messages. Interestingly, if I double-click on
the '.emix' file, the message pops up in a Mail window, but it doesn't
show up in any of my in-boxes, even when I do a search. The only thing
that seems to work is copying the desktop Mailbox, transfer the folder
to the laptop then do an import from Mail. The Mailbox and messages
then show up under in an 'import' folder.

I understand the easiest solution would be to leave the messages on the
server, however that's not an option for now.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.
