I've had no response on the Miscrosoft.public.mac.entourage group with my question, so I'm flying it here:
Entourage 11.2.1 (051004), Mac OS 10.4.2, iBook.
What in heck am I doing wrong? When a message comes in with an attachment, the attachment doesn't download. I get a message at the top of the message window that says something about it being a partial download and I'm given an option to get message from server and when I select that I get another message saying the entire message will download next time I connect. So I close the window, re-open it, hit Send & Receive, and it all comes down.
I'm puzzled by all of this because in my Tools --> Account settings, I have checked the box to partially download messages over 200kb in size. It seems to be happening regardless of the size of the file. Thanks,
Barb

It sounds as though you could have a couple things to check.
You could have leave a copy of each message on the server, which you probably don't want unless you use several clients and want them all to grab the same email.
You don't want to have the partially receive messages over XX KB. That is going to leave copies on the server that are bigger than specified, 200KB according to your post, which for me would probably be almost every email that has an attachment.
Not in my case. I often receive pic files smaller than 150KB -- they should download, no? Right now, I've got one message, 41K size that didn't download completely.
Yes, if the message is less than 150k as you say yours is then it should download completely without any intervention from your behalf. Unless other issues are present.
Lastly, what type of email account is the one in question? POP or IMAP? If you set up your POP email account to be checked as IMAP, you'll also get the online questions.
Where would that setting be, so I can check it? Entourage Preferences? I don't see it.
You can view the types of your current accounts by selecting Tools > Accounts or Entourage > Account Settings...
You can see what this window looks like on my page here:
http://www.basilweb.net/macoffice/receipt2.html
The very first image. Nevermind what the page is about. ;-) Just look at the picture if you have questions about the window I'm referring to.
By every account it will say the type, surrounded by parenthesis like this: (POP), or (Hotmail), or (IMAP).
You want yours to say POP. IMAP is for online server mode basically. If you make any changes, it will say that they will be made the next time you sync, or check your mail.
I don't know of any way to change it from IMAP to POP once it's there, so you might have to delete the IMAP account and configure a new one as a POP. It's one of the first choices you make when setting up a new account in Entourage.
Also, it would help if you gave us all the details of your email settings of Entourage, minus the username and passwords of course.
In account settings (both are POP accounts I use): the account name. Personal information - my name, my email address; Receiving mail: Account ID: my name as formatted for the particular account, POP Server: earthlink's pop server for one, and earthlink's mail server for the other (this is how Earthlink had me set them); Sending mail: earthlink's smtp server for both.
Options tab: random default sig option; header with my website address; Server Options to partially receive messages over 200KB (not all of the messages that I'm having the trouble with are over 200KB, which means, if I understand correctly, that they SHOULD download - pics, too; Not checked: leave a copy of each message on the server and delete messages from the server after x days. CHECKED: Delete messages from server after they are deleted from this computer; Allow online access (shows account in folder list).
Maybe I'll uncheck the size-limiting option and see what happens. But it should work as I've got it, I believe. Drat.
While you are there, change the "allow online access" to not. That's just asking for a lot of hassles.
If that doesn't solve it, I'm afraid I can't offer any more info other than to remove and re-install Entourage (or office, whatever your case is).
I wish you luck.
thanks for your attention.
You're welcome.
