I had almost exactly the same thing happen on my Quicksilver (G4 running
10.3.8) several months back--- though I do not recall all of the
details. I have two external FW drives that I use for backup and I've
been afraid to backup ever since. But I have. I make sure only one of
the externals is turned on when I run Retrospect. After it happened, I
had the devil of a time getting one of my HDs to mount again. I ran
Disk Warrior on all my startup volumes once I got it to recognize the
drive. But every time I run Retrospect, I live in fear because I have
no idea what made it happen in the first place. Given the high cost of
Retrospect, I expect more reliability.
