I cannot connect to my usual Usenet servers since the server system at my work changed to using ISA proxy server 2004.
I have used MT-NewsWatcher and its predecessors for a number of years under various Mac OS's and in various server environments but a recent change by my work IT group to using an ISA proxy 2004 system has cut the chord. Because I am not using my usual NewsWatcher access path, I am posting via an unusual route so if anybody can help please post to my email as well. Thanks!
I am unclear if this is an OS X (I'm using Tiger) problem, a MT-Newswatcher problem, a NewsWatcher problem or just a curse put on me by the IT group but all attempts to connect to the microsoft news server and to my usual New Zealand news server under xtra.co.nz are now blocked.
I gather from a bit of reading (well that which I can understand) that the ISA 2004 system does not support SOCKS, and that OSX does not support an alternative. I also gather that NewsWatcher may not be the only thing that I am going to have trouble with and that both software update and ftp have also been mentioned as likely failures too, although I have not tested these. I suspect that NewsWatcher is in fact just my first port of call on this problem and that it is not involved at all.
So I would appreciate any comment from those who understand the problem as to the possibilities.
The only way I know to get work with ISA server is to make your default gateway the ISA server. Rules will still have to be in place on the ISA server to allow your traffic out.
