Ok, did you import the images in iPhoto? Ah well, as long as it works out weell for you.
I did, and it did. The filename became the photo caption.
But what about the subject name, which I gathered was the folder name?
I only had nine of them, so I created nine albums (not smart albums) with the names of the folders and dragged the pictures onto those albums. That sorted them by subject, and sorting the albums in turn by caption also sorts them by date.
This grandfathers in all the old pix; from now on since our current camera correctly populates all the timestamps and so forth, I can just import them and use smart folders and roll names.
And it makes me wish iPhoto had a Windows implementation, since my wife refuses to switch. Picasa 2?
Alas, perl annoys me so much that I never think of it. :)
Haha, tough luck. :)
Perl and I have a studied history, but at the bottom of it is a fundamental lack of respect for Larry Wall's technical decisions in implementing it. (And, the unmitigated hack they dared to call "object oriented". Don't get me started.)
I hear tell he's rewriting from scratch for Perl 6, so I expect he shares some of that lack of respect.
IMO, the language is both a lexical and semantic nightmare. TMTOWTDI is useless if it confuses the program more than liberates the programmer. The last perl-based website I had to maintain had no less than 120 installation steps.
(Yeah, the guy who wrote it could have done better and still done it in perl, but that sort of underscores my point. I'm not a fan of C++ for similar reasons.)
EVEN SO, it's dang useful for the quick and dirty, isn't it? :-)
Rob, who has also written stinkers. .
