You can dump caches with practically no pain later - like wise Preferences.
Are you an old pre-OS X guy? Did you ever have to try to find a bothersome
extension? Keep half and try. If OK, then the problem is in the other half.
Load half of them. Still OK? Repeat. Problem? Backup and cut in half. Luckily
OSX does not require reboot to test this methid with preferences, just a
logout. More, many things that make an app "yours" are not in the prefs file
like days of old but are in places like Application Supprt or Documents.
Good luck. I, too, thought my problem was user specific but the time factor
reared its head. Do report back.
