"That promise to shut down external web stores on the iPad has
been fulfilled and the Nook, Kindle, Kobo, and Google Books apps have
just been either drastically changed or removed from the App Store
entirely.

Nook, Kindle, and Kobo now have no access to the web-based bookstore
and you can no longer create accounts in the app. Only users with
current accounts and books on file in the various stores can read them
and book purchasing. For example, as of today, users of the Nook Kids
app are no longer able to access the Barnes & Noble web store while
Kobo users cannot create accounts or buy books from the app.

You¹ll also notice that the Google Books app is now missing from the
iTunes store, "

Terrific analysis...

....except for the little fact that is isn't true:

The Amazon Kindle team says:

We wanted to let you know that we've updated our Kindle app for iPad,
iPhone, and iPod touch. The big change is that you can now use the
Kindle app to read over 100 Kindle newspapers and magazines including
the Economist, as well as share favorite passages from your reading via
Facebook and Twitter. In order to comply with recent policy changes by
Apple, we've also removed the "Kindle Store" link from within the app
that opened Safari and took you to the Kindle Store. You can still shop
as you always have - just open Safari and go to
www.amazon.com/kindlestore. If you want, you can bookmark that URL. Your
Kindle books will be delivered automatically to your iPad, iPhone or
iPod touch, just as before."

And from your own link:

I don't buy this whole story. I just fired up my Kindle app and it let
me go to the Kindle Store from inside the app. Also I was able to go to
the Google Books store from inside of Google Books app. I successfully
purchased a new book for Google Books and it immediately showed up in my
app.

Juan Javier Coka
just did a new account and it still work. don't buy it either

store button and I just noticed there is a new Google Books update
(version 1.1.1.2883) available now in the app store."
