I agree with most of this. I think that the entire iMovie-like
file/project management where all your media is available to you all
the time is something that Apple may change due to the uproar. It's
easily changed I presume.

The other huge mistake they did, eliminating "tracks" in the timeline,
is harder to fix, and it certainly is a deal breaker. FCPX will be
totally unused in a significant portion of the production houses that
use FCP7 today, which is a huge failure.

The problem here is that this is one case where it would have made sense
to gather together a "focus group" because professional non-linear
editing has specific, not-so-obvious, requirements.

Right, I have no idea whether they did that... Do you? I'm assuming
you only assume they didn't?

SJ once said, "It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A
lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to
them." This is true for cutting edge consumer products. But it's not
always true for professional products.

Well, to be fair to FCPX, it has some really kick-ass features that a
lot of pros may not have known they wanted :)

There are some omissions that I'm sure Apple will fix, but there are
some design choices that are harder for them to fix, those are the
alarming parts.

"Final Cut Pro X includes an all-new project architecture structured around
a trackless timeline and connected clips. In addition, Final Cut Pro X
features new and redesigned audio effects, video effects, and color grading
tools. Because of these changes, there is no way to "translate" or bring in
old projects without changing or losing data."
