A growing number of people who have just updated to Snow Leopard are still running into printing problems now that Apple has dropped Appletalk support in OS X. Appletalk was an old, proprietary communications protocol that was rather slow and inefficient, and in OS X 10.6 Apple removed it in place of more modern printing and networking protocols.

thanks for the link. Appletalk is a very old protocol, you and others should be more surprised that it was supported as long as it was.

Printing in OSX with many consumer printers is horrible. The printers that have worked for me are the Epson CX9400, my trusty HP 1200 laser jet and my newest acquisition, my HP CP1518ni.

I have gone through at least 5 printers (Lexmarks and Samsungs) that were horrible, even using CUPS. I don't know if it's the same on the Winders side, but my printers and I just have a difficult time getting along.

Even though it's a driver issue, I wouldn't buy anything but an HP and my second choice would be an Epson.

As for Appletalk, is Edwin kidding?
