What would you like to see in OS X (and integrated apps) that is not
there?
Some idea of the top of my head:
* Real maximize (option green button - no need to remove any
other functionality).
* Windows snapping to edge of screen.
* Tabbed Finder. As an *option*. Off by default. Maybe
split panes as well.
* Resolution independence.
* Better install / uninstall procedure.
* Scrollbars that visually change when being used... ok, a nit,
but this was done better in OS 9.
* Mouse driver that can handle many-buttoned rodents. OK, this
would help only a few people, but it would be nice to have
it built in. Oh, and make it programmable per application.
(With that said, SteerMouse will be upgraded for Snow
Leopard, yeah!)
What mouse drivers are missing? Evey multi-button I have hooked to it work
"out of the box".
I use a Logitech MX518:
<http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/187>
Eight buttons... the left, right and middle work fine, as does the scroll
wheel, but the other buttons are ignored by the default driver. I also have
some of the buttons programmed to do different things in different programs
- mostly just the middle button.
SteerMouse supports up to 16 buttons (if you have'm), allows me to program
buttons per application, and gives me better control of mouse speed (though
the standard OS X speed controller is find as far as I am concerned).
Some examples of where this comes in handy: my next and prev buttons, on the
side, work for next / prev tabs in all my browsers and other tabbed apps
(Dreamweaver, for example) and next / prev message or file in my Mail
client, my Usenet client, my RSS client, my text editor, etc.
Those are the buttons I use the most... I could live without the others
(though I use them for hide application, show all windows, and dashboard)...
but with a standard mouse I feel like something is missing if I do not have
my next / prev buttons.
OK, this is getting long, but one area where next / prev is really good is
comparing two versions of a web page - have each one loaded in a tab go back
and forth effortlessly while not even glancing away to look at the tabs or
having to remember the next / prev key strokes in each application.

I use a 518 also. The driver does not support changing assignments for the 2 sensitivity buttons but I am able to use the third button on top to control spaces and can use the 2 side buttons for Expose with no problems.
