No Steve, it isn't a problem. Boot Camp can *only* be installed on a
single volume and it needs to partition the disk itself. It's clearly
stated in the instructions. You are wrong....again.
It is a single volume. It's a 320GB hard drive with a single partition.
156 GB free space, with 100GB desired to be set aside for Windows.

Try again.

Note that it spent 7-10 minutes trying to do the partitioning before
bombing out.

Do some googling on this and you'll find every suggestion under the sun
to resolve this. It's almost funny.

Try this, unless your only purpose was to bash the Mac and not look for a
solution. Also, after having investigated further, you can use a defrag
utility for your disk. Another solution is to back up via Time machine or
even CCC (excellent utility, btw, I backup my HD every other day on my
Xserve and another computer on my LAN, JIC) and reformat the drive, which
I recommend.
Furthermore, why use bootcamp and not VMWare or Paralles? It's a much
more elegant solution, given the shared folders, coherence mode
capabilities and the fact that you don't have to reboot every time you
need to use Windows.

CCC is free, btw.

Is it a hassle to get errors like this? You bet it is. Is software
perfect? No, it isn't and given your apparent level of knowledge of
computers, you really ought to know better.

Personally, I use VMWare. It's faster and more reliable.

VMWare is a good solution but the best solution for me is to run each
OS from it's own HD. Problems crop up when running two or more OSes on the
same HD. If one of them flakes out, you may not be able to boot the other
OS. It's just a big hassle.

Been running Parallels and VMWare for a long time now. No problems here.
But I do have a complete backup of my system via CCC. No hassle there.
On my Macbook pro, I boot into Windows with no problems either.

I use Parallels with XP so I can run the Playon Media server. I use
SuperDuper! to do my clone backup and a Time Capsule for my incremental
backups.

Nary a problem with any of it

As cheap as HDs are these days it's pretty easy
to just ad a new HD. Oh but wait, if you have a Mac Mini or iMac, that
means
your limited to USB or Firewire solutions. Some OSes don't run too well
from
external USB or FW ports. I know Windows won't run because it uses a lot of
virtual memory in the form of a page file. When is Apple gonna put out a
reasonably priced Mac in a normal sized case where you can pop in a second
or third drive? The only PC that Apple makes with this capability is the
Mac
Pro.

Why is it that you think that I or anyone else nees a dumbed down tower
from Apple? Why not just slap an external FW800 drive?

John likes dumbed down computers, or haven't you noticed? :)

Apple crams a laptop into a Mini case and that's cute, it's small, we
get it. Now when the novelty runs out, you have a computer that is hard to
add memory and full speed HDs to. Thus is the business model of Apple,
style
over practicality.

Carry on using your Peecees then.

Amen, and let me add, use them and talk about them in a Windows
newsgroup. Few of us here really give a crap about your uninformed
opinions.
