This is wrong. Unless disabled, Windows UAC would not allow the application to be installed without prompting. No?
Steve, if a Windows user did disable UAC, is the statement correct?
Do you agree that it seems significant numbers of users disable UAC,
because it seems annoying?
Yes, they do. They are stupid. It prompts a lot more on a new PC when one is installing a lot of software, but it calms down. I think more will leave it alone in Windows 7.
And therefore, if a security feature can be easily disabled by a
novice, amateur, or fool, (the people who need it most!) is it really
doing its job?
Yes. I have two locks on my front door, but I can leave them unlocked when I go out if I so desire. Same for my car alarm.
In environments where control is necessary, these types of settings (UAC) can be forced without users allowed to override them. (Windows AD Group Policies).
