My HD TV (Sharp Aquous 32" 720p) had a DVI input which worked well with the previous Mac Mini. I have since got a Sony Blu-Ray player which I connected to the TV with an HDMI to DVI cable. SO, I have no free inputs to connect anything else now, so would have to look at conversion options, or some sort of switchbox.

I have a JVC 61" DiLA set that specifically says it doesn't support computer resolutions. So I don't know if just a converter cable would do the trick or not.

But assuming it would, how does Safari/Firefox look on your HDTV?

It looked beautiful at the best resolution I can do on a 720p set. If I had 1080p I could have gone 1024 vertical resolution. I have a Sharp 46" new LCD in the living room (1080p), I might try and see if I can connect a laptop to it. I believe it might have a VGA input.

I'm amazed at the problem of trying to get any and all streamed/downloaded video onto a TV. One of the things I ran into was that tnt.tv won't do full episodes on anything but windows 'cause of the DRM they use. They even say so in their FAQ. Irritating! What I don't know is how many sites are like that.

Feel lucky you live in the U.S. (I assume you do). I have friends elsewhere, i.e. Australia, and so much content is blocked to non-U.S. residents.

At the moment I'm getting the Apple TV, which will meet some of my wants. It has about the same things that Amazon has at about the same prices. And being downloaded vice streamed is a plus imo.

Right now I'm considering the Roku box because it supports Netflix, which I subscribe to and Amazon, which isn't important now.

But I'm also considering a media PC instead. I would prefer a mac, but may have to consider a windows box instead. Any suggestions for a cheap, TV supporting windows box?

Maybe a Dell Studio Hybrid? It has an HDMI output.

For your HDMI cable and switch needs, go to monoprice.com. Great prices and everything I ever bought there was very good.

I usually go to eBay and buy them about a half dozen at a time, probably $5 to $7 each there. I typically just give them to friends who buy new gear and I don't want to see them spend $45 or more for one from the local electronics store. :)
