Apple's Safari 4 Public Beta is a UI disaster

"This is where it goes wrong for Safari 4. There, the tabs are the titlebar,
leading to a rather schizophrenic UI widget: it has to act as a titlebar and
a tab bar, and consequently, does neither of the two very well. Since you
have to be able to drag the window via this new tabtitlebar widget, Apple
had to create a special and small handle for moving tabs, while making the
tabs themselves the place to drag the window. This design decision is
something I expect from a 6 year old."

All of these conceptual issues go away if, instead of thinking of a
window containing tabs, you think of a stack of related windows, each
with its own special type of title bar (the actual tab), with those
title bars arranged to make it easy to switch between the windows. This
"stack of windows" metaphor is clearly Apple's thinking.

(Of course I recognize you have absolutely no interest in the substance
of the issues you post about, as long as the material you post seems
critical of Apple.)

Well, of course Zara is just posting negative things about Apple - he makes
no bones about it and does not pretend to be non-biased or, well, doing
anything other than just trying to rile people up. Contrast this with
Carroll who posts negative things about people he hates and then denies that
is what he is doing. They are both trolling, but Zara does not try to deny
it. A much better form of trolling than what Carroll does.

With that said: personally I do not think the top-tabs are at all a good
thing, at least not for me. Seems others agree. And I do not like how they
resize. Just weird and makes them harder to work with.
