When I did a fresh install of Leopard on my CoreDuo 17" iMac, it took about 45 minutes.
I'll download Windows 7 tomorrow and install it on my 2.0GHZ Core Duo Dell E1705 and see if it takes "Twice as long".
But I have a feeling that, like usual, you're full of ***.
Good luck with your download then. Considering that some fibre cables were sheared last night
due to flooding and other area avalanches. The net is sort of slow today. And of course all of
the people around the world wanting to download Windows 7 beta.
I haven't noticed any slowness today.
Microsoft hasn't posted the download as of 2:30PM-CST. So I'm still waiting :)
Well, according to CNET.news, MS had to shut down their servers due to excessive demands.
They are ramping up more servers and will be back on line later. I figured they would have to do that.
Finally noticed that the internet is back up to snuff. A local news item for Montana said that a main fibre
cable was broken near the main high tension lines due to an avalance. Luckily the power towers stayed
up.
At least you didn't spend a lot of money on a MacBook and wiped OS X off of it,
like Steve Demena has claimed so many people are doing.
:-))
It took 41 minutes to install on this laptop. So like I predicted, John is full of it.
it takes 30+ minutes for the recommended "check DVD" step.

I'm currently uploading pictures to the new Microsoft "Live" photo gallery of the setup with my iPhone next to the screen showing the time. I started at 6:57PM CST, and ended at 7:38PM CST. It's taking a while to upload the pictures, since I'm uploading the unedited 3648 x 2734(10MP) jpegs.
The install went without a hitch, and all my hardware works out of the box, including the networked Kodak 5500 printer on another computer. This surpised me. It looks like Windows 7 downloads the drivers on demand. Since this printer is actually hooked to my iMac currently booted in to boot camp running XP.
I have been interested in the Kodak series printers as Kodak has claimed to be
the lowest ink cartridge costs of any inkjet printer out there.
A few people have complained about the reliability of these printers on epinions.com.
How is yours faring?
Mine had some trouble a few months ago. It turned out to be a printhead. Called Kodak, they next day aired me a new one without ever asking for a serial # or a receipt. And it worked like new again.
I had to pay $60 to get this HP OfficeJet cleaned, as over time the inkjet spray eventually
covers the timing disks inside and the printer finally shows up with a carriage jam
message. I really didn't want to throw away a $300 printer due to dirt.
But eventually in time I will have to get rid of it and buy another all-in-one.
I like the 5500, but it is noisy with the duplex unit on it. But pictures are great, text & graphics do pretty well. But what also sold me was the ink price. And the fact that I can go to WalMart, Target, etc... get both black and color ink for about $20-$25. So now I'm not the least bit concerned when my 7 year old prints out all his artwork :)
.
And here are the pics of the complete setup.
