Carrying the theme "Windows. Life without walls," the new ads will show
Microsoft "audaciously embracing" the phrase "I'm a PC," which has
been so successfully tarnished by Apple Inc.'s ads during the past two
years, in order to rehabilitate it, reported The New York Times.

I got a kick out of "Hello, I'm a PC, and I've been made into a
stereotype."

I wonder how that happened.

Wintrolls, can you tell us how the PC has been made into a stereotype?
Could it be that is it Microskank's fault? I ask for information only.

Apple's/Hodgeman's "PC" represents the platform itself (clone hardware
and Microsoft Windows) whereas in these ads Microsoft has twisted "PC"
into meaning its users.

Straw man. They're claiming Apple's been bashing Windows users, when
it's really just been making snarky fun of Microsoft, the company
convicted of anticompetitive, monopoly practices, that has a
well-chronicled history of predatory licensing, product dumping, partner
and vendor intimidation, etc. Not quite as warm and fuzzy as smiling
Bill Gates in a sweater.

But the interesting thing in this is that, for this first time in the
media, Microsoft is acknowledging Apple as a competitor, essentially
giving Cupertino more credibility as a player in the OS/platform game.

I think this is going to backfire on them. Watch for Apple to make even
deeper inroads now that MS is using its own marketing dollars to alert
its users to Apple's existence as a competitor.
