Sorry. But it's simply bull***.
Steve has more problems with his mac than the scores of people I support.
And the idea that you have to reboot once a week because of something an app has done is just nonsense.
Not really. As I've said before I have to reset Safari at least twice
a day at work or it will quit accessing webpages. The blue bar will
get just past the http://www and stall. If it does that while I'm
trying to access an app on the server I've no choice but to restart
the computer. Reseting Safari does nothing; opening a new tab or
window does nothing, neither does quitting Safari and restarting it.
If you've got some genuine, better solution I'd love to hear it, but
you can post 'bull***' all you want and it will still be true.
I wish I did not have to reboot. I bring up "Activity Monitor", which is always in my dock, and look for tasks using up high CPU or are "red" and kill those first before rebooting as a last resort.

Trying to connect to a share on a Vista machine here at home, which turns out not to exist. In Finder, do a "Go ... Connect to Server", smb://COLLECTION;nalini/msdn" (nalini is the server name, collection is the domain, msdn is the share).
It sits there. "Connecting...."
And sits there. "Connecting..."
The "x" in the "Connecting..." dialog box is greyed out. I can't exit it.
I kill "NetAuthAgent" and some other suspects in Activity Monitor. No dice.
It is still sitting there after like 10 minutes.
We know what that means. another Restart. Second of the day.
And this problem of connecting to SMB servers (of all flavors) is a frequent problem.
