Let the whining begin. And please, please someone bring up
software!
Cuss and discuss
Why did you upgrade the MacBook to a better display than the HP?
I went with the highest level screen on both models. This is based on
what I want not what one particular company offers. I want the best
screen available.
So you're getting more from the Mac and it costs more. Gotcha.
I'm getting a slightly higher resolution screen on the Mac. In all
other areas the Mac doesn't measure up.
And according to you, this is a critical requirement...
Alan will now produce where I said anything even remotely like
this...oh, wait...this is Alan 'I'll cry like a little girl until you
give me a URL but I'll never back up anything I say with one' Baker.
Nevermind
You mean other than immediately above where you said:
"I want the best screen available."
Sounds like a critical requirement to me.
Which is why I added the best screen available to both. But you keep
on acting like I declared that I can't live without the best screen
ever and that this is the only thing I find important. Taking things
out of context is a specialty of yours. And, besides, its not like
you've got anything else.
Why did you add a modem to either?
Because I wanted a modem.
How often do you actually use one
Multiple times a week.
and what do you use it for?
Mostly for faxing.
Why did you purchase Apple's RAM when you can get it for less from
a
third party? It's user-installable.
For the same reason I purchased it from HP. From Apple its $200; from
Crucial its $100. That's not enough difference to worry about in my
book.
Especially when it makes your comparison look better...
If I'd left the extra RAM out of the HP and got it from Crucial you'd
have a point. Since I didn't you are wrong. No one is surprised.
If you'll notice the 17 inch MacBook Pro starts out $200 higher than
the specced out HP.
Can you install RAM yourself in the HP?
Probably. But I don't want to when its so cheap to get it from the
factory.
So you don't know.
Nope. I didn't bother to look it up. I didn't care. If I get one its
going to come from the factory maxed out on RAM. You do seem to care.
You look it up.
And will you cry like a little girl now that I insist
you provide a reference?
You want a reference to prove that I don't know something? You take
the Alan Baker Prove It Game* waaay to seriously.
BTW to add 4 gigs to the HP was $150. To add 4 gigs to the Mac was
$200. I'm sure that $50 is what's making the Mac ~$1,000 more
expensive.
I'm sure you realize that it's a whole bunch of smaller add ons which
look pretty much like you trying to make the comparison look as bad as
possible.
Like what? There's simply not that many options to pick from on the
MacBook Pro. And there's nothing I selected on the MacBook Pro that
isn't answered on the HP.
Please provide a list of these smaller addons that I put on to make
the MacBook Pro look like less than a bargain.
And while you're at it try to come up for an explanation as to why the
base model 17" MacBook Pro starts out $200 higher than the fully
specced out HP if you really want to push the claim that it was just
my option picking that makes the MacBook Pro look overpriced.
*Patent Pending
That streak was Alan Baker running for the cover of the tall grass,
faster than a scalded cat!
I'm disppointed that no one brought up software. I was going to add
$270 to the Mac to make up for the Premiere Elements/Photoshop
Elements that I use if they had.
